Watch Your Wallet

Here is an interesting experiment you should try. Put on your shoes, walk outside, and find yourself a rock. Not just any rock, however, but a rectangular rock about 1-2 inches thick, 4-5 inches long, and 3-4 inches wide. This rock should be just a little bit larger then a deck of cards.

Now that you have your rock, the experiment can begin. Step one is to carry that rock with you every where you go. If you go to work, drive your car, or just hang out around the house, carry that rock with you.

Step two is very important. Every time that you sit down, place that rock on the right or left side of your chair. Once the rock is placed on your seat….go ahead and sit on it. Now, for the entire time you are seated, keep that rock under you on either side you choose, but never in the middle.

Step three is the easiest of all…..keep up this experiment for the rest of your life.

You will soon reach an epiphany. That is, it’s not at all comfortable to sit on a rock for any period of time, in any chair, and certainly not for the rest of your life. However, you already knew this without even attempting the experiment.

Amazingly, there are millions upon millions of men (and some women) in America attempting this experiment every single day. The only difference being that their rock is a wallet.

Carrying your wallet in your back pocket is convenient, it’s easy, there is a pocket right there in almost every pair of pants and shorts you own, and let’s face it, it’s “normal”. What you might not know is that this “normal”, daily event can lead to some major health issues.

Think about it, your body is made to be stable in the sitting position. If you were meant to sit crooked, you would certainly be designed that way. So, why is it that millions of us sit crooked on a wallet each and every day?

As you sit on your wallet, you are creating instability in your spine. Just ask your local chiropractor if they are sitting on their wallet. Something tells me the answer is no. As you lean to compensate for the size of your wallet tipping you left or right, you are unknowingly having a negative effect on your posture and your overall health.

Sitting on your wallet can create subluxations in your spine. A subluxation is when one of the 24 bones of your spine has moved out of place to compensate for instability. When a spinal bone moves out of place, it puts pressure on the nerves that exit small holes between the bones. That pressure decreases the electrical messages that are being passed to all the cells, tissues, and organs in your body. These are the messages of life. They give your body function without you even noticing. You don’t have to think to digest your food, keep your heart beating, or breath. These functions are involuntary, but a subluxation can decrease their ability to work properly.

This is the basis for chiropractic care. A chiropractor will analyze and then adjust the subluxations in your spine to remove them and restore optimal nervous system function. By doing so, your body will better be able to handle its daily activities with all pistons firing.

So the next time you jam that overstuffed wallet in your back pocket, think about your health and well being. Maybe invest in a money clip that you can carry in a front pocket. If you still must carry a load in your back pocket, think about placing the phone number for your local chiropractor inside!
